Description:
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the operation, control, monitoring, and deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Students will learn the fundamental
principles of SMR operation, including reactor startup and shutdown procedures, operational modes, reactivity control, load following, and integration with modern electric grids.
Upon completion of this course learners will be able to:
- Describe the digital instrumentation and control (I&C) systems used in SMRs
- Apply principles of reactor diagnostics and remote monitoring for safe operation
- Analyze cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies in SMR operations
- Evaluate nuclear security, safeguards, and non-proliferation considerations specific to SMRs
- Compare and contrast SMR operation and control with traditional large reactors.
This course is self-paced and contains 15 hours of content consisting of lecture videos, instructional materials, self-directed activities, knowledge checks, and quizzes.
Learners who successfully complete all requirements for the course will receive a digital Certificate of Achievement.
