Description:
Purdue University Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate Program
Purdue University College of Pharmacy offers the Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate Program, which follows guidelines for nuclear pharmacy training programs prepared by the American Pharmaceutical Association Section on Nuclear Pharmacy. The certificate program is designed to meet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirement of 200 hours of formal training in basic radioisotope techniques necessary for an individual to be named as an authorized nuclear pharmacist, authorized user, or radiation safety officer. This course offers didactic hours in Radiation Physics and Instrumentation, Radiation Protection, Math Pertaining to Radioactivity, Radiation Biology, and Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, which are the NRC-described categories in basic radioisotope handling techniques. The additional NRC requisite of 500 hours of experience using typical types and quantities of materials is not provided by the certificate program and must be met by working with radiopharmaceuticals in an appropriate setting.
*Payment for part I of the program (self-study: $3720.00) will be required before any training materials have been shipped. Once we have shipped the training materials, there are no refunds. You will be required to submit the part II payment ($3290.00) before coming to the campus program. The total cost of the program itself is $7010.00.
Key features of the Purdue University Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate Program
Learning is reinforced by viewing video material while working in the nuclear pharmacy setting under the supervision of an authorized nuclear pharmacist.
DVD format allows the trainee to adopt his/her own pace for learning; periodic computer based exams monitor the learning process.
The campus session, offered twice a year, is limited to seven nights, minimizing time away from home.
Hands-on campus training sessions allow trainees to learn and practice key skills under the supervision of Purdue faculty in a structured learning environment.
Private rooms are reserved for trainees in the Purdue Memorial Union, an excellent facility for comfort, convenience, and economy located on campus.
The Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate Program is ACPE approved for 65 hours of live continuing education credits.

Trainees must be enrolled in the course several weeks prior to the campus session to allow time for adequate preparation for the session through the distance learning section and concurrent nuclear pharmacy practice. Anyone wishing to enroll after the registration deadline will need permission of the faculty.
