Course Description: Fluid therapy is one area I struggle with daily whether for rehydration or resuscitation from shock. Few interventions are as fraught with the possibility of error and disastrous consequences. Many schools of thought and much controversy surround this topic. The temptation exists to just set the pump at ‘two times maintenance’ and be done; the actual fluid plan should be based on an evaluation of the patient and changed to match the patient’s changing needs.
