Description:
This course will provide a detailed introduction the direct analysis method for design included as part of AISC Specification Chapter C. The course will explain the transition from the old effective length (K-factor) method to the new direct analysis method for design. The course will introduce the fundamentals, provide guidance for use, show examples and case studies, and provide hands-on experience. After completing this course, the practicing engineer will have a clear idea about the direct analysis method, and the ability to use it with confidence in various situations. Prof. Varma takes a simple but effective approach to teaching with emphasis on gaining hands-on experience and developing useful tools for practitioners. Guest lectures from prominent practitioners will provide additional industry context for the course content and applications.
