Obtaining your IAHCSMM Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification helps Central Service Technicians demonstrate that they possess the essential knowledge and skills necessary for managing critical departmental duties safely, effectively, and consistently. It also ensures that Central Service professionals remain current with evolving instrumentation, technology, standards, and best practices to ensure Central Service departments function effectively.
To obtain your certification, a 400-hour on-site externship in Central Service Technical Training is required. In partnership with CBET, this externship provides central service, operating room, infection control, and material management employees firsthand experience at an approved healthcare facility.

Students who enroll in this program will be placed at an approved externship site with a qualified externship supervisor to deliver training and evaluate competencies. Placement and weekly commitment will be contingent on the student's location and externship provider availability. A student’s hours, progress, and competencies will be tracked through a digital timesheet.
