Description:
Lean Principles is a certificate course offered through the Purdue Online, College of Engineering. It is part of the Lean Six Sigma three-course online series that also includes
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and culminates with
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Learners may take
Lean Principles before or after the Green Belt course or as a stand-alone course.
Learners will develop an understanding of the critical concepts and themes associated with Lean operating systems deployment. A graduate of the
Lean Principles course should be able to apply the management principles of Lean Thinking and effectively utilize several Lean tools to implement Lean principles to improve a value stream.
Instruction takes place within the Purdue online learning management system and is delivered by a highly-qualified Lean Six Sigma professional serving on a team of instructors. There is ample opportunity for learners to interact with the instructor and other learners in the online course through discussion forums, optional live lectures, and Q & A sessions delivered virtually through WebEx, as well as consultation with the instructor by email and phone.
Three industry-specific learning tracks (Healthcare/Service, General Business/IT, and Manufacturing/Production) allow learners to engage in the latest thinking on how to implement Lean concepts within their specific business environment through targeted research and reading sources as well as discussion forums focusing on engagement with student peer groups.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will earn a
Lean Principles certificate from Purdue University and should be able to:
• Articulate the business case for Lean within their own business/industry.
• Assess process maturity and health from a Lean perspective.
• Define a plan of action for Lean deployment across an individual value stream.
• Lead Lean transformation of an individual value stream.
• Describe the core principles that define a Lean operation.
Learners have the option of earning 3.5 CEUs, which is equivalent to 35 contact hours, on an official Purdue University transcript at no additional cost.
