The Cyber Academy
Cybersecurity: Immediate Immersion - November 2022
The course will consist of 15 -25 study hours per week for 6 weeks depeding on your background. The Immediate Immersion course is designed to impart initial basic cybersecurity skills. Student wills be assigned two online real-life tasks.
For the first task, students will investigate a defense contractor’s website secretly, fix a vulnerability, and remove the malware. Students will be taught to use an LFI exploit uncovered by human intelligence to access to the webserver themselves and crack the webmaster’s encrypted password. Students will remove malware and patch the vulnerability that left the system open to attack.
The second task includes analyzing network traffic moving in and out of a military aide’s personal laptop. Students will use packet capture (PCAP) files and determine if the laptop was infected by malware, what malware, and how the infection occurred. Student will analyze evidence found and use open source intelligence about a particular exploit kit to make a hypothesis about the attackers’ identities.
Each task will be open for 1-2 weeks during the duration of the course.
Prerequisite: Knowledge of basic computer networks, protocols, and the fundamentals of operating systems is strongly recommended.
Registration in this course is subject to the Purdue Online Non-Credit Policies.
