Description:
Food Science 470 Wine Appreciation is one of the coolest classes to take at Purdue according to the Exponent, the student newspaper. Purdue wine professor Christian Butzke has taught the face-to-face version of the class to over 6,500 undergraduates over the years, and now an online version especially for Purdue alumni around the world will be available. FS 470 Wine Appreciation ONLINE is a study of the history of winegrowing, global grape and wine production techniques, and the economic and political impact of the wine industry as part of modern agriculture. The course is designed to provide an understanding of the nature of wine - its production, history, uses, and related responsibilities. Descriptive sensory evaluations of regional wine styles are conducted. Instruction is provided to develop one’s ability to recognize different classes, types, and origins of wines. 42 wines will be discussed and recommended but are - unfortunately - not included, but available online, or at local wine shops and wineries. This non-credit online version can be taken at one’s leisure and in the comfort and safety of one’s own home.
